At just over three weeks into the new year, paddling is starting to creep back into many conversations between me and the girls. And we’d be the first to admit – we just love it! I can’t wait for the new training regime to begin and to get our crew back on the water.
One-man season, hosted by the Maui Canoe and Kayak Club (MCKC) is well underway at the moment and the West side clubs have been representing themselves with some fantastic results. OC-1 paddlers from Napili have been winning medals left, right and center. Lahaina’s Surfski contingent have been outstanding and one of our very own girls crew won silver medal on Saturday 15th! Congratulations Carlee, your girls are very proud of you!
And the good news continues…
Lahaina Canoe Club is now a 501 (c) 3 club. What does that mean? Well, it means that we’re now the type of organisation that can receive charitable donations, as long as they’re tax deductable for whoever wants to donate. All donations are very welcome, so don’t hesitate if you’re in the mood for buying us a nice canoe!
Speaking of new canoes. We have already been donated the money for a brand, spanking new Bradley racer – especially for the women and kids of LCC. These boats cost a cool $20,000 so the donation from Makana Aloha is hugely, hugely appreciated.
It looks like our new wa’a is going to be painted with Bengal tiger stripes, so there will be no missing us when we take first place in our races this season…
I’ve got lots more news to bring to you over the coming weeks, so keep checking back for more. And to all of you who read my blog in 2010, a huge mahalo for your visits!
Bye for now, Laura
